Specialty courses allow you to master specific skills that will improve your experience every time you go in the water. Our specialty courses range from one day courses off the Magnetic Island to multi day courses including trips out to the SS Yongala and Great Barrier Reef. Expand your knowledge in specialised diving techniques and work towards special recognition ratings such as specialty diver or the much coveted Master Diver rating.

Hone your underwater navigation skills so you never get lost underwater.
During our SSI navigation course you will go through some advanced compass and navigation skills to ensure you fully understand how to navigate naturally, and with a compass. During the two dives off Magnetic Island you will learn how to read a dive site, plan a dive and navigate in all conditions.
This course will allow you to feel much more at home in the water without having to rely on a professional to show you the way. Reduce stress and confusion by always knowing where you are in relation to the boat or shore and enjoy your dives much more.
Get the most out of each dive by improving your buoyancy control.
Increase your dive time by using less air, feel more comfortable and relaxed during your dives and become everybody’s favourite dive buddy.
During this course we will take you on two dives off Magnetic Island and work on proper weighting and trim, breathing patterns and techniques, advanced fining techniques and many more buoyancy skills.
Buoyancy is one thing that you can always improve, ensure you are using correct techniques while diving to become more comfortable underwater.
Our SSI Search and Recovery course provides the skills and concepts required to safely plan and conduct search and recovery dives.
You will learn about search patterns, specialized dive plans, underwater communication, and how to recover small to medium-sized objects using specialized equipment like lift bags.
This course is great if you want to prepare for your stress and rescue course or just want to improve your navigation skills.
Our SSI Nitrox course will go through the theory behind diving with enriched air, how to test your tanks and your oxygen levels and includes 2 ocean dives off Magnetic Island diving with Nitrox tanks.
The course will teach you how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen. Diving with enriched air can increase your no-decompression limits, increase your safety, and reduce the required length of your surface intervals when compared to air.
Many of the ocean's best dive sites have artificial reefs, or wrecks that have sunk through the ages. This course gives you the skills and knowledge required to safely scuba dive above and around these underwater treasures.
During our wreck diving course you will learn where and how to get background information on wrecks, how to locate wrecks and how to prepare for a wreck dive. During the 2 dives on one of Magnetic Islands many wrecks you will apply the correct wreck diving techniques, as well as, evaluate and avoid the potential risks while diving on wrecks.
Explore the depths of the ocean with our two day deep diving course.
Many exciting dive sites are located in deeper water. Without proper training, this kind of diving puts you at risk. Our SSI Deep Diving course will give you the ability to safely and comfortably plan and conduct dives beyond 18 meters, and is a prerequisite for some advanced training.
During this course you will complete two dives on the famous Yongala shipwreck as well as doing two dives on the Great Barrier Reef. The deep diving course will certify you to dive up to 40m.
If you are simply interested in diving or plan to become a Dive Professional - the Science of Diving program is what you need!
This course treats all areas of dive theory to a detailed and comprehensive manner: physics, physiology, decompression theory, marine life and diving equipment. This program is a perfect "winter Specialty", since no dives are required.
While diving at night you can discover a different side of this world and you can experience it from a completely different view. It is an unbelievable feeling to discover the mysteries held underwater when the sun goes down.
You will learn new techniques, use new equipment and become a competent and experienced night diver during this course. During your two night dives off Magnetic Island with a highly experienced instructor you will learn how to navigate and orientate yourself in night and low light situations. You will learn how to use and dive with specialised equipment such as torches and emergency signalling devices.
Upon successful completion of this course you will hold the rating of Night Diver, which can be used to dive at night anywhere in the world and also work towards your rating of Master Diver!
